Of course, you must prepare for an interview to increase your interview performance but increasing your performance does not stop at preparation phase. You are still required to perform in the actual interview.

Do you know the famous question in the interview of ‘tell us about yourself’, as simple as this question sounds don’t take it for granted. This question gives you an opportunity to set the tone in your interview. You need to invite the interviewer in your life or into your world. When answering this question, you need to focus on your target audience being the interviewer(s) and not your fears. This is where you can demonstrate your some of your skills, competencies, future aspirations and some of the things that motivate you. While understanding that this is where you set the tone, you still need to keep your answer short and professional, at the same time opening up yourself to the interview i.e. being vulnerable. One of the things you must not do when answering this question is to say ‘as mentioned in my CV’ of course it is mentioned in your CV, but your CV is a piece of paper and the interview is expecting you to express in your own words, your own attitude and how you generally feel. Allow the interviewer to get to know you a bit better from a personal level, professional level and success level. So, since you know that this question might be asked in an interview, prepare well of this question and make sure to answer it well. After answering this question, you can expect the interviewer to ask further clarifying questions based on what you have expressed in this question, so that they get to know more about some of the things which you have expressed from this question.

As you know this is not the only question you will be asked in an interview, some of the questions will be challenging for you. You might feel that you are not capable of answering these questions. Try to fight in an interview. What do I mean by that? You must keep on performing no matter how hard the questions might be for you. Even if you don’t have the work experience and can’t fully demonstrate your skills and knowledge. Think of some of the things you could have engaged in, in the past and how this experience can help you to answer this question.

Remember you must keep on performing in the interview and focusing on the preparation phase is not the only way to increase your performance.
